Ernest HEBERT [1817-1908] was taking his first drawing classes at the age of ten in Grenoble. In 1836 he enrolled to the Academy of Fine Arts. Before graduating  he had already achieved success, he was awarded with Prix de Rome for the painting La coupe de Joseph trouvèe dans le sac de Benjamin. In 1839 he exhibited his works at the Salon for the first time. In the following year, he continued education at the French Academy in Rome, where Igres was presiding at the time. Vivid personality and exquisite painting of the master made a profound impression on the artist and greatly influenced the oeuvre of Ernest Hebert.
