Hendrik Pieter KOEKKOEK was born in family, which were well known in the Netherland artistic world. He was a son of Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek (1807-1870) and nephew of the most famous of the whole family - Barend Cornelis Koekkoek (1803-1862). In 1848-1850 he lived in Amsterdam and travelled to London and Hague. Hendrik Pieter worked mostly in England, specialising in forest landscapes. His compositions base on creating the contrast between small human figures and large, dominant forest. His oeuvre, just like his fathers, characterise by romantic landscapes captured in glumy light.
