Gustave Jean JACQUET [1846-1909] spent most of his lifetime in Paris. He began his artistic career with a debut at the Salon in 1865 with the canvas entitled “Dream”, painted in a classical manner. In the following years he was focussing on historical painting of small size, depicting life of aristocratic families. Jacquet received a medal at the Salon of 1968 for the painting 'Guard'. In the meantime, he started painting portraits on a large scale, what eventually brought him fame and recognition. Over the years Jacquet worked out his individual style defined by gentleness, sensitivity of his brush strokes and academic ‘fini’. The artist was selling his artworks in his own atelier located in Paris.
