Dietz EDZARD [1893-1963] was born in Bremen. He travelled a lot across Europe, mostly to Germany, Holland and finally France where he found inspiration for his painting in the art of French Impressionists. In 1929 his works were displayed at the exhibition of contemporary art in 'Jeu de Paume', the Parisian Impressionists museum. In 1938 he married Suzanne Eisendeck, also an artist, who posed for this portrait. Edzard painted mostly female portraits and images of flowers, characterized by unusual colour sensitivity and subtle play of hues and shades.  He became famous for depicting scenes of the ordinary life of Parisian cafes visitors.
